“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2, NKJV)
When reflecting on this passage of Scripture, do you ever wonder about this “cloud of witnesses” that surrounds us? We know and see everything that surrounds us in the natural realm, but we also know from passages such as these that there is also a supernatural realm that we cannot see…or at least most of the time.
The following story details how my brother, Mark, inadvertently captured a beautiful and glorious snapshot of this supernatural realm, and the cloud of witnesses it beholds. Additionally, this story also provides a moving and powerful narrative of one man’s race of endurance unto Christ, and the role these witnesses played in his glorious victory when he crossed the finish line!
