Happy Birthday, Mom!

On this day that doctors said would never come, I am reminded of the sovereignty of God and His Word. As I wish my mom another happy birthday on this side of heaven, the promise of Scripture resounds ever so clearly. The Psalmist declares a Lord who heals all of our diseases and renews our youth like the eagle’s (Psalm 103). James reassures us that “the prayer of faith” through corporate prayer “will save the sick, and the Lord will raise [one] up” (James 5:15).

There are times, however, when our flesh struggles with waiting on the Lord, especially when our prayers are not answered in our time. However, when Jesus learned that the one He loved was sick, he did not heal him right away, but declared that “this sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4)

Happy Birthday, Mom! May your testimony sing the praises of our most sovereign and holy God who holds dominion over both life and death, and encourage those that are going through their own battles.
