The Restful Yoke

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29, NKJV

Many people view a yoke as something designed to oppress the one wearing it.  However, there is a key necessity for the yoke within the bounds of its design.  A yoke ensures that the one wearing it stays within the will of the master.  An ox wearing a yoke follows the commands of the one holding the reins.

The difference in this case is that the one wearing the yoke put it on willingly out of love and devotion to the Master.  Learning from Jesus in this manner is the key to a gentle, humble heart and a restful soul.
