The Crowns of Discipleship

“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?  For you are our glory and joy.” 1 Thessalonians 2:19-20, NKJV

The increase of new believers and their continued discipleship produces hope and joy for us, and also serves as a crown of boasting before the Lord at His coming.  These crowns establish our riches in Heaven and testify of our work on Earth.  As Charles Spurgeon states:

“Aspire to be something more than the mass of church members.  Lift up your cry to God and beseech Him to fire you with a nobler ambition that which possesses the common Christian—that you may be found faithful unto God at the last, and may win many crowns for your Lord and Master, Christ.”
