Today it seems that many of the foods we once loved are out to kill us, or so says the ‘experts’. For example, salt was once a beloved condiment that had many practical uses, such as preserving food, making food more palatable, and even treating wounds. Now they say it causes a wide array of heart problems and high blood pressure!
In a portion of His Sermon on the Mount known as the Beatitudes, Jesus declares that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed because they will be satisfied. Later in this same sermon, He declares that we “are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, by what will it be made salty? It is good for nothing any longer except to be thrown outside and trampled under foot by people.”
Friends, where have our hunger and thirst for righteousness gone? Have we bought into the lie that salt causes heart problems? I hate to break it to you, but the world already has a heart problem! “For from the heart come evil plans, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, abusive speech.”
Be the salt today, brothers and sisters, and save a heart for Christ!
